70s spunk
I have given myself the challenge of taking at least one photo every day this year. They don’t have to be good, but I have to take one (hence the weird lighting that you see in many of my pics). [Side note: I like the word “hence.” And as I was discussing with my friend Jen, I like saying the word “grapes” but I do NOT like the word “satchel.”]
Anyway, when I need a subject to photograph I often grab something that I picked up at a thrift store, so this (above) is a 1970s pattern that I have high hopes of someday sewing. The part that I like best–beyond imagining that I could sew puckers and pleats and puffy sleeves–is the attitude the younger girl has compared to her Doris Day companion. So punk-rock while wearing gingham and rick-rack!
I know most people get their fashion inspiration from celebrities and In-Style, but I really think that Simplicity might be on to something. I would swap the skirt for something more unexpected (shorts even?), but I know I would walk around all day with that sly “hell yeah” look.
